Dong Ya Seafood Chi Char << 东亚海鲜 >>

Located at 36 Keong Saik Road, junstion of Teck Lim Street. This coffeeshop sits in one of the pre-war shophouses and opposite the building, you can find a stretch of pre-war shophouses as well. With most of them being under the Heritage Preservation Programme, you can see more modern restaurants sprouting out.

I remembered a decade ago, one of my friends brought me here and I must say the dishes were good ! Surprsingly, after so many years, they now have their chef recommendations and I must say yes, it's a MUST try when you come here. I have been there twice this month with different groups of friends and confirmed that the following below will normally be recommended by the lady.
This dish below is pretty addictive. Wrapped with pork floss, water chestnut, carrot, scallop and I think asparagus. Thumbs up for it ! You will ask for more.

Nai3 Pi2 Fu3 Pi2 Juan3

Coffee Ribs
One of their highly recommended Tou fu topped with Chai Por and minced meat. I find this so-so only though.

Qi2 Xiang1 Tou4 Fu4
This dish spicy level varies from the two different visits. The first time I came was way too spicy for me. But the second visit, it seems just right. The chicken were deep fried to a crispy crunch and coated with yet another sauce that you will ask for more.

Gan1 Xiang1 Ji1 Guo1
I personally find this soup normal. Not as fascinating as what they have recommended. Tasted quite blend to me, probablyI need more stronger taste food at the moment.

Fish maw Soup

Pricing wise were quite reasonable. We ordered about 4-5 dishes and total bill tantamounts to $50 plus but less than $60. It would have costs more if I were to eat at the Chi Char at the kopitiam opposite my place.

Operating hours :

11am - 2.30 pm
5 pm - 10 pm

If am not wrong, they are closed on every wed.

After the dinner, if you can still stomach further. Try their traditional bread toast from the coffeeshop ! No pics for the toast as by the time, the order came, they are gone in seconds ! = p

Simple Fractions

1/2 and 1/4 ... This has been commonly heard from Xav recently. Hence, I thought it would be good to introduce to him simple fractions.

Came across this when we were in BKK and the price was pretty cheap, so why not just grab it. I think this can be found in some pasar malam stalls in Singapore if I remember correctly. Anyway, since I did not buy it the last time as I felt that it was too early for Xav to learn.

In it, contained 38 fraction pieces, comprising 1/2, 1/3, 1/4, 1/5, 1/6, 1/8 and 1/10 and 10 double sided word cards.

First I explained and showed him what it meant by half. He got to place the fraction pieces onto the cards. I even got his fruits and vegetable toys involved to let him visualise better what is 1/2 after the fruit is being cut.

We continued with a simple exercise on shading the correct number of parts and circling the correct fraction.

Xav actually asked me " why is it when the bottom number (denominator) gets bigger, the size of the fraction piece gets smaller.

I gave him an example of using a round cake dividing by the number of guests (using his favourite trashies). Each time the door bell rang, one more guest joined in. The more number of people sharing the cake, the size of the slice gets smalller.

Clover GAC - Japanese Restaurant

We had our Mama's Day celebration early as it was foreseen everywhere to be packed the next day. We went to Selectar Airbase for a Japanese buffet dinner. Nestled in the MAJ Building, I would not have know that there is actually a small cosy Japanese restuarant that lies within until my sis brought us there. The place is pretty secluded.

This is the an over view of Selectar Airport from the third floor.

We opted for the Yaki Ala Carte Buffet and surprisingly, the food are not too bad !

I would recommend the Fried Garlic Rice, grilled prawns and chicken yakitori sticks. They do serve chicken hearts and gizzards but I'm not game for all these. =p Check out their range of yakitori sticks ! Oh yes, not forgetting, I love their Edamame too !

Their Sashimi slices were delightfully thick and fresh ! Help yourself to the free flow of hot or cold Japanese Green Tea.

Child friendly ? Yes they do have utensils and cutleries for children. Just be ready for unexpected delay in some ordering and some dishes they may serve which are not in ur order list. Other than that, it's pretty nice to dine there. Good to call and reserve before going there.

As recommended by some Mummy Bloggers, we visited Eat.Play.Love Cafe after reading the reviews. I'm totally in love with the craft cafe ! A good place to spend a leisure afternoon, with one of my best pal, Xav could craft together with us and dear, relaxing one corner with his Sugar Crush and helped us in our craft thereafter. Killng three birds in one stone heh ! I managed to spend some quality time with all !

The craft cafe is decorated with mainly vintage stuff.

Here's our lunch, Amelia ordered Macaroni with cheese while I ordered Pineapple rice set.

Dear, had his own time to surf net and of course sugar crushing with no disturbance when Xav is occupied with his monster creation.

What's in my bag ?

This is my typical working bag and most of the time, these items found inside are the quite standard must haves. the items I bring out can be lesser than these 10 items but am trying not to bring more than 10 items.

If I bring Xav out, add-ons would be a pack of wet wipes, one set of clothes for him and his water bottle.

Here's my list from the bottom right to left :

1. Coach wrislet to contain coins, receipts, notes and a pack of tissue. Normally, I will just hang this over my wrist and just swing off for lunch !

2. My house keys with the 3D Minnie Mouse Key holder, housing the key to my main door. Saves the hassel of identifying which key is which from the rest.

3. Mini hair brush from Bodyshop incase my hair gets messed up if ever I'm caught in the rain. (Not neceesary to bring out though)

4. Maybelline lipgloss to look "swee swee" abit at times cos I normally don't put on make up.

5. A bottle of Prefrin eyedrops to be on standby as my eyes are always red from irritation. 1001 reasons but I don't know why either. Maybe due to my fringe ?

6. DBS IBanking Token to settle my indian sums with my different groups of shopping network, anytime, anywhere.

Second Row (Right to left) : Burberry wallet holding about 14 cards (Credit cards + membership discount cards). You see as our age number gets bigger, the no. of discount cards to help us make some savings increases as well. (Turning into a typical Auntie soon heh)

7. My pair of Dior shades from hubby. A Must have ! I can do without an umbrella but I can't do without a pair of shades from the scorching sun.

Row 3 :

8. Miu Miu card holder, a birthday pressie from my sis. Three standard items in it. DBS Atm card, OCBC Atm Card and my Citibank EZ Link card. Sometimes, I can just grab my phone and this card holder when I go for quick dinners near my place.

9. A bright sky blue with moo prints from Smiggle to help me note down when I'm meeting my friends of different groups or any plays/ musicals that I'm bringing Xav to watch, not forgetting the birthday parties/ full month or weddings that we'll be attending !

10. My mobile phone cable so that I can charge my phone at work as battery used up pretty fast !

11.Last but not least the roomy LV Bag hubby got for me to contain all these above !

This will be the new item to add into the bag on weekends or meeting up with friends only. My new baby : The Golden Child of Lomographic Cameras, Fisheye Baby 110 ! Typically weightless !

Quite a number of friends were asking me where did I get my baby from. Here's the address :

Lomography

So what's in your bag ? Linking up with Accidental-mum-blogger.

Baked potatoe with cheese stuffing

One thing I like about weekends (clearly no programme planned, no parties, no appointments, nothing) is I get down to some planning on what to cook for lunch and dinner. Last weekend, I decided to prepare a simple western lunch.

This was what I tried out, baked potatoe with cheese stuffing. Quite simple but a little time consuming when it comes to stuffing the cheese in between the slices.

All you need is potatoes, butter, grated parmesan cheese and cheddar cheese.

Method :

1. Slice the potato but not totally. When you are nearing the base, hold your knife so that the potato will look like as if you can flip the slices.

2. Sandwich a little amt of butter, alternating among the gaps. You may want to do it on every gap if you are not particular on the oiliness.

3. Stuff the mixture of grated parmesan and cheddar cheese in between the slices as shown.

4. Bake for 45-60 mins to make sure it's thoroughly cook @ 180 Deg C. The cheese will melt and flkow out. I tried my best to scoope them and stuff back into the gaps before serving. Or does anyone have a better suggestion ?

As for the greens, I bought broccoli, cherry tomatoes, dried cranberries and carrots. Thankfully, Xav is not a fussy eater and loves this plate of greens.

I threw in the broccoli and carrots in boiling water with salt and olive oil for about 2-3 mins. Mix the cherry tomatoes and dried cranberries with the boiled veg. You can perhaps drizzle some salad dressing over it. I skipped it as my sauce is used up.

I pan fried some sausages and prepared some baked beans. Marinated the pork chop slices with teriyaki sauce. I made some criss cut across the chops so that the meat can be marinated more in depth and taste more flavourful. According to dear, he said, it tasted good ! How good I wouldn't know as I did not try the pork chop.

This portion is for Xav. I cooked some pastas for him and a teriyaki chicken steak to go with and his compliment was "wow mummy, this looks like restaurant food" ! All plates were wiped out clean. Worth a try !
