[Review] Preserved Flower Dome - One Hour Florist

Between fresh flowers and preserved flower dome, which one do you prefer? My personal preference, I love preserved flower dome more. To be honest, I am unsure how long it can last, I would probably update here if the flowers in the dome 'rot' one day.

This lovely flower dome was ordered from One Hour Florist  , I was asked to choose the age of the receiver, relationship and for what occasion. From the input, One Hour Florist will personalize a dome that suits the occasion.

It arrived in less than 24 hours after I placed my order, pretty efficient! The dome was packed in a solid cylindrical holder. A bow was tied on top of the dome ( I lost that photo) and looked really on perfect for gifting.

It actually makes a very nice prop! I like to open up and take photos of it together with some of the product reviews. Cover up with the glass dome and allow it to take a place on my shelf as a home decor.

One Hour Florist sells fresh flowers too! Get your bouquet today and get it delivered within an hour!

[Review] A-Grade Premium DIY Terrarrium Kit

It is always great to be able to pot a plant or DIY your own terrarium and use as a deco for the house. During the period when we were preparing for Prelims and PSLE, we took a break off the revision and DIY a terrarium but with succulents this time, with thanks to Mason Home Decor.

It was totally hassel-free with this A-Grade Premium DIY Terrarium Kit . I am totally a noob when comes to gardening. The one who came up with this kit was really thoughtful to have everything ready for you to get started. It totally saved me the effort of going to hunt for the correct type of soil to use and what I loved most was, material waste was zero as the portion packed for each material was just nice to fill.  There would not be any leftover to waste.

The kit consists of the following:
- 1 glass bowl
- 1 set of gardening tools
- 1 bag of mixed soil
- 3 pots of succulents
- 3 bags of decorative pebbles
- 1 drip bottle
- 1 pack of decorative figurines

A-Grade Premium DIY Terrarium Kit

I tasked the siblings to set up the terrarium as a team. Vera carried out the more basic and straight forward tasks

while Xav took on the more challenging steps such as repotting.

It was pretty challenging for the repotting of cactus especially.

Xav took the chance to share his knowledge to Vera on how succulents make food, especially the thorny cactus. Do you know that cactus makes food just like any other plants? The thorns/spines are actually leaves, hence, the stem contains chlorophyll and photosynthesis will take place at the stem.

I loved how it turned out to be and of course their por por loved it dearly when the duo gifted it to her.

This DIY Terrarium kit was one great activity to get the old and young engaged. Get yours if you love succulents. It was pretty fast free to maintain as you do not need to water them daily, just once a week!

[Review] My Very Own Clay Tiles- heART Studio Singapore

At heART Studio, apart from paints, clay work is another art medium taught. At heART Studio, the kids were taught to create their own clay tiles and were taught what air dry clay and Relief Sculpture was.

It was more than just giving the clay to the kids, the process flow which involved a lot more steps and not forgetting the planning. I felt that this project was not just about art, it was a project with alot of new words taught to her. Just on the different techniques, Vera learnt about knead, roll, pinch, coil etching(scrape) as well as score and slip, the different techniques which involved her fine motor skill which is so essential for penmanship.

But first, she has to decide what designs she would like to have on her tile by drawing out as part of the planning. For someone who does not like repetition, this drawing can be a challenge to her but from the look of it, she seemed to have more patience for it and completed the task.

At times when she could not digest too much information, this was what happened, to roll or to spray water?

Initially, the fear of getting her hands 'dirty', she was trying so hard to keep her hands 'clean' but slowly as she got into the process, she started to enjoy the rolling.

She had to cut out the shape on the clay, following the plan she drew earlier. This was the part she learnt that she should not draw the shapes too small otherwise she would be facing challenges to cut them out.

Vera had to learn to control her strength as well, testing very much on muscle control.

She learnt how to make the slip to glue the clay together and joining the clay together at the edges.

She had to draw the design on the cut-out clay following her planned drawings.

Definitely a project with alot of information to digest and under the patient guidance, Vera completed the project with the whole project broken down into bite-size which is definitely manageable for kids.

Vera is currently in Little Picasso (Suitable for 6-8 yo) and these are the programmes for the various age group:

Little Botero (suitable for 3- 4.5yo)
Little Dali (suitable for 4.5 -6yo)

[Review] Cake Delivery Singapore

Cake is one of my weaknesses, it is hard to resist these treats when I need one to perk me up or just relax and enjoy it with a cup of nice tea.

These assorted treats are from Cake Delivery Singapore. I ordered the following flavours: Ondeh Ondeh, Chocolate Rainbow, Dark Chocolate Ganache, Pistachio Rose and Mao Shan Wang Chocolate cake.  Choose either a whole cake of a single flavour or go for 8" Build Your Own Cake , 10 assorted flavours if you would like to cater to the different liking of everyone. I chose the latter.

It would be much better if the slices were wrapped with a cake wrapper individually that the cream of the different flavours would not be in contact with each other, I am quite particular with it. The presentation would look better if the slices were cut with a clean knife each time and of a constant regular size.

Among all, I liked Chocolate Rainbow the best. The cake was fluffy yet not crumbly. The luxurious chocolate cream that was coated on top, gave a slightly bitter-sweet taste which I loved that it is not too sweet to savour. These vivid rainbow layers were made of natural and preservative-free colourings. This is perfect to pair with a cup of tea and am sure all kids and even adults, will love this!

Chocolate Rainbow Cake

Next favourite was Ondeh Ondeh Cake inspired by our local traditional kuehs! I do have a sweet-tooth in me but I only accept a certain type of sweetness. I love Ondeh Ondeh in any form! The pandan flavoured sponge slices were soft, gula melaka cream sandwiched between the layers and dusted with shredded coconut which gave some textured in the overall bite. It will be perfect if the buttercream is slightly less sweet.

Pistachio Rose is a new flavour in Cake Delivery Sg's menu. The first bite into the slice, the taste of the buttercream was detected to have an infusion of rose, the fragrance was pleasant! However, I find it a little sweet.

I least expected the Dark Chocolate Ganache and Mao Shan Wang Chocolate Cake to be sweeter than the rest, it was a tad too sweet for my liking.

Mao Shan Wang Chocolate Fudge Cake

I would likely to order a whole cake the next time and Chocolate Rainbow will be my first choice! Do check out Cake Delivery Sg to place your order and for more information on their new flavours.

Delivery is free with any order above $80 (you can add on a bouquet to go along with it too) and Cake Delivery delivers on the same day too between 9am to 10pm or you can also top up more for 1-hr express delivery.

Thank you Cake Delivery Sg for the sweet treats!

[Review] Origin Superior Coolmax Latex Pillow

We all know that good night sleep is important to allow us to wake up fresher the next day. It is hard for me to find a suitable pillow and I used to sleep without a pillow for years as I could not find the right pillow that does not give me a neck ache.

Looking for a comfy pillow to sleep on that is suitable for the all-year-round sunny climate in Singapore? Here is one great choice to consider when you are shopping for a new pillow - Origin Superior Coolmax Latex Pillow from Origin Mattress Singapore! Wake up to a fresher morning with a better quality sleep the night before.

Made in Germany, Origin Superior Coolmax Latex Pillow (measuring 65cm x 40cm x 13cm)has a removable and machine washable cover made of Tencel fabric which is lightweight, comfortable (softer if you do a comparison of it with cotton). I further read that latex material has hypoallergenic properties which made it even better for people with nose sensitivity like me!

The holes in the latex pillow reminded me of the baby cot mattress we bought for the kids, it is made breathable and cooler this way. Comparing latex foam to memory foam or fibre, the material of latex foam is denser and it will mould the shape of our head, giving us the right level of support. The durability of latex foam is also much longer. In fact, it can last for a few years!

Vera knows her stuff, she came onto my bed, gave the pillow a try and told me straight in the face next "Can I have this pillow in my room?" She is directly asking to own it!

[Review] NATRAHEA

It should be around 3 years ago,  I remember till date that I was tearing while I stood rooted beside Vera's pram, right at the traffic light junction opposite to my block. The pain was intense and I was limping badly even the support of the pram. I called for my sister's help to babysit the kids and went to straight to a chiropractor. You read it right, not General Practitioners as they would probably prescribe me with some pain-killers which I am allergic to and ask me to monitor the pain, if it worsens, then do go for an x-ray.

At the Chiropractor, I was diagnosed with a hip bone inflammation, went for intensive treatment thrice a week for a month and I recovered with no medicine, purely by adjustments and doing stretches at home.

At the beginning of 2020, I started to have nagging aches on my lower spine and neck aches. I was not sure if it was due to the fact that I am always crafting on the floor and the hard fall onto the sea bed during the waves surfing attempt in Bali last year. The bad posture and fall actually contributed to aches and pain and a tingling numbness on my thigh.

There was a week, I was bedridden due to intense pain on my lower back. The feeling was scary as I could only move my body with my arms, it was that bad. I could not even bend forward to pick things up nor to change my shorts.

To add on, another problematic area was my neck that was aching badly with possible cause attributed by poor posture from using the laptop and mobile phone (try and think if you have been looking down on your mobile phone most of the time).

Then, I was recommended to NATRAHEA, a premier one-stop natural healing centre that provides Chiropractic, TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) and Functional Wellness as a one-stop solution. With these 3 services under one roof, it definitely saves a lot of time from travelling from one place to another. Although worlds apart, these three treatments complete the Circle of Healing.

 Dr. Jason

First, I went for an x-ray just to make sure that there was no hairline crack from the fall. Luckily, there was no sign of any. My x-ray scans were explained to me and what caused the pain.

However, it showed that the disc space on my lower back at L4 and L5 was pretty narrow and that could be the culprit that caused the pain and numbness on my right thigh.

Blue line is the healthy curve, red was my alignment.

My pelvic bone needed to be pushed down to create more space so as to lessen the pain. You can go Xavvylicious Instagram highlights under Natrahea and clips on how Dr. Jason did the adjustment for me. As he proceeded with the adjustment, I could feel 'clicks' along the spine. The feeling was indeed a relief!

I like that chiropractic adjustment are non-invasive, safe and it helps to alleviate pain and aid in recovery.

Apart from chiropractic treatment, I also did spinal decompression to release the pressure felt on my nerves as the decompression machine gently stretched and retracted my spine. I took the chance to catch some winks while the machine did its job. You could barely see the movement but it was some really gentle pulls.

There were also moments I would feel unbalanced and I knew that one of my legs was shorter than the other due to the stress I added on it from the pain. At times, we tend to stand in a way such that we made ourselves 'comfortable' to accommodate the pain but in the wrong posture. I was indeed having a leg shorter than the other because it could be easily seen when Dr Jason did the check. Usually, after the spinal adjustment, I could feel my 'balance' again.

If you have been getting frequent headaches, give your neck a check. It could be due to the posture accumulated from looking down at the mobile phone as well as when we are using the laptop. Ideally, these two gadgets should be at our eye level to maintain a good posture.

Using the adjustment method as well, the aches behind the neck disappeared instantly! Just relax and trust that you are in good hands of the doctor.

With TCM service under the same roof, patients can also seek consultation and have acupuncture treatment done on the area you are experiencing soreness. I did my check on my first visit and was told that my heartbeat was slightly faster than the norm and blood pressure was on the lower side. I took the chance to tune my body which lacked the qi as I always have the felt like I had been hit by the fatigue bug. After a course of herbal powder, my blood pressure improved, I felt more energetic and my heartbeat was back to normal by the second visit.

Accupuncture

Under Functional Wellness, they do provide Muscle Therapy too! Deep muscle massage to loosen the tight knots. It was pretty comfortable though certain trigger points were really an 'OUCH' moment when pressed on, especially the shoulder blades and certain part of the neck. All these are caused by the accumulation and stress due to poor posture or old injury.

From the massage, the therapist could tell that my back muscles were unbalanced, it seemed like I had used one side more than the other. I loved this treatment with all the massage pads stuck onto my back as it emitted gentle pulses to massage the sore parts before the therapist conducts a deep muscle rub. SHIOK max! I guarantee that you will have a better sleep in the night when the circulation in the body is so much better.

Muscle therapy would usually end with stretches. This is so important! I do feel the difference if I stretch on a daily basis and on lazy days, the aches returned.

After a month of intensive treatments at Natrahea, my nagging lower back pain was gone and the aches had lessened. If you do believe in natural healing, keeping a well balanced 'Qi' in your body as well as getting your muscular and skeletal elements in the ideal condition to make a healthy and energetic you, do give NATRAHEA a try! There are a total of 7 outlets islandwide, I am so glad to know that there is one outlet near me in the Northeast - Heartland Mall (Kovan).
