Fried Rice Cake

My first attempt of my very own fried rice cake.

My initial intention is to have fried rice for dinner.

Guess there is too much water for a cup of rice. Ended up, the rice is kinda sticky. No matter how I fried, it just gets lumpier !!

Looking at the texture, I guess I can make rice cake out of it. And dear dear rated 8/10 for this.

Xav loved it too !

But I omitted the sausages out for him when I fed him.

I used some crabmeat sticks, fried omelette with spring onions, sliced mushrooms, a little garlic, diced tomatoes and some "Lap Chiong" - Chinese sausages

Here's my kitchen assistant.

Having fun beating the eggs for me.

This dish does not required any seasoning, apart from a little bit of soy sauce and pepper for the egg, it's pretty tasty !

De Tiramisu

I made my first cake ! Thank you Angie for your patient guidance.

The lady fingers fall in !

Pour half of the mixture as the first layer.

Then sprinkle a layer of chocolate shavings before pouring the remaining portion onto it.

Topped the final layer with chocolate shavings.

This was what we used for the cheese.

The end product "De Tiramisu"

Lil baker's imagining how to whisk.

Recipe and method is from Happy Home Baking !

Twoosy Doodlers Lesson 1, 2 & 3

On lesson 1, Xav did "peek-a-boo" craft as inspired by "Yuko Lau".

And on Lesson 2, I can't elaborate much on what he did during the class but Xav did his first sculpture !

And if you noticed the long spagettis holding up high

by the end of his lunch, he broke all the spagetti and his sculpture "shrink"

Funnily, Xav named his sculpture his "birthday cake" ! Probably it looks like a birthday cake to him, with all the decorations as candles ? Let his imagination run wild here !

This is his art piece for lesson 3.

He was pretty terrible in class today. He is just simply having difficulties to return the car back to the teacher, if you knew that he loves cars and trains.

I had to bring him out of the class to make sure he stopped crying so as not to disturb the rest of the class. By the second time I brought him out, I had to distract him. And he calmed down after that, telling me " open the door please, want to go in". I told him "yes, you can if you stopped crying" . Apparently, it worked and he stopped his whines. But he didn't want to present his work when was asked to and simply answered "Don't want" !

Just wanted to voice out something with regards to this school. They actually doesn't allow us to take pics of what the kids are doing during the class with the reason of wanting to secure their curriculum as there are alot of competitors out in the field.

In my opinion, I felt that they should be confident enough about their curriculum, instead of having to worry that competitors might "copied" what they are doing. To me, I feel that somehow or rather, the activities are more or less the same if you wanted to compare to other enrichment classes. Just that in certain ways, one is stronger than the other.

One good example is Zoophonics. They allowed pictures to be taken and what they have been teaching in class, you can easily google to find learning videos which has been taken in their classrooms !

In anyway, I shall respect their decision and post only pics that were taken when Xav did his presentation during the gallery time.

Coming back, for the third lesson, Xav didn't want to present but instead he presented to me at home !

Personally, I like his piece from the 3rd lesson with no particular reason ! Keep on going !

C T Yeo Respiratory & Medical Clinic

Two weeks ago, Xav got yellowish mucous out of the blue and as usual this will be accompanied with a phlegmy cough. As a result, he wheezed again.

This time round, no more PDs. We brought him straight to a respiratory specialist as recommended by a friend.

C T Yeo Respiratory & Medical Clinic
Gleneagles Medical Centre #09-18 S(258499) Tel: 64730918

His advice was we have to accept the fact that Xav's airways belongs to the super sensitive type. Normally PDs only relieve the symptoms or rather take control of the wheezing for that episode only by giving short term Singulair or with the help of nebaliser.

However, such short term treatment does not help to reduce the sensitivity of the airways in the long run, which in return, makes it more difficult for kids with such condition to outgrow this during their childhood and continued to stick with them as they reach adulthood.

He told me that reducing the sensitivity of the airways, would be a long term treatment. He prescribed antibiotics "Azithromycin", Seretide Evohaler, Arieus for the nose allergy, Kaloba Herbal mixture as well as Singulair for 2 weeks.

The Evohaler has to be used with the Aero Chamber which costs a dear $51 for one ! This is to help children who doesn't know how to use an inhaler.

Total damage for that visit was $344. But so long as it works well for Xav, we wouldn't be bothered by this amount.

And thank god, Xav recovered in less than 2 weeks before he went back for his review.

Our very hungry caterpillar !

Can you spot 'em !! This is our recent pets or rather mum's recent pets ! Caterpillars ! The one at the bottom (Cat A) was brought back first but the one on top (Cat B) built himself a cocoon much sooner than the one below Cat A.

Close up of Cat A

Close up of Cat B !

And I had witnessed how Cat A was hungrily, nibbling through the green leaves !

We forgot to take note of how long did Cat B stayed in the cocoon. It was definately less than 2 weeks when it became a beautiful butterfly !

This is the empty cocoon shell of Cat B while Cat A is still hibernating ! See if you can spot Cat A ?!

And I spotted two tiny weeny caterpillars on the leaves of the plant near to the kitchen !

A new cycle begins !

Zoophonics - Lesson 7 & 8

Due to all the hunting and moving house issues we missed lesson 6 and best we didnt even have time to attend the make up class !

Lesson 7 taught the kids about red and green during the Mandarin class. They were asked to look for the correct colour for the mother parrot and placed the baby parrots accordingly.

And for me, I learnt the song "two little dicky birds" in mandarin version ! Sounds a bit funny though as they named the birds "叮叮 & 咚咚" .

Then, they did a painting craft of a parrot and sticking the feathers on it.

Xav's parrot !

Story for that day was "Commotion in the ocean" and after that they did a craft on hermit crab !!

And Teacher Janet taught them "float" and "sink" by showing them in a see through tank, which items can float or sink.

The last lesson before the term ended !

Lesson 8 is a recap on the animals which they were taught for that term. They were engaged in a sorting activity during the Chinese class, matching the animals accordingly to their homes.

Followed by matching the animals against the food which they ate.

And they did a rainbow fish craft during the English session. Before that, they were told a story "The rainbow fish" by Marcus Pfister.

For the craft, they need to colour and paste the big fish onto the background before sticking on the colourful scales for the fish !

And after this class, Xav showed more interests in the rainbow fish storybook at home !

They also did a puzzle on matching the body parts of a fish.

Dancing to the song "The wheels on the bus" with the paper steering wheel !

Teacher Janet ended the class with bubble play.

This marked the end of may and the beginning of the june holidays !

And Xav gets to start his abrakadoodle class tomorrow !
