[Media Invite] Let's Go Cook Singapore

If you recall a post on 'Trails of Tan Ah Huat" by Award-winning Let's Go Tour Singapore. Recently,  they were awarded with "Best Tour Experience" by Singapore Tourism Board.

This time, I returned but with Xav for a culinary session by "Let's Go Cook Singapore" which is under the same roof, learning how to cook Peranakan Cuisine.

Nyonya cooking is basically using techniques used by Malay or Indonesia community using a blend of Chinese ingredients with various distinct spices, the end result of the dish is usually herbal, spicy and aromatic.

I have on and off allowed Xav to be in the kitchen with me whenever time permits and by his request. I feel that it is always good to learn these basic "survival" skills so that he can cook himself a decent meal in the future if I am not around.

I have summarized the whole session into two video clips, covering the following dishes: Kueh Dadar, Chicken Rendang and Butterfly Pea Flower Rice. We did everything from scratch including slicing and blending of the spices! Xav was enjoying the whole session thouroughly!

Why join Let's Go Cook?

- It is a great bonding session be it with your family, friends, colleagues (think of company retreat) and something special for couples instead of the usual movie watching. Glad that I am able to have Xav joined me.

- Let's Go Cook Singapore teaches delectable local dishes such as Nasi Lemak, Chicken Rendang, Nasi Lemak, Kueh Dadar and Kueh Ko Swee and many others.

Chicken Rendang

If you are a tourist visiting Singapore or if you are like me who is overwhelmed by the amount of spices needed to cook certain dishes like Chicken Rendang, this cooking session is for you. The ingredients needed by the recipe were nicely prepared and portioned out as per recipe, there would be no wastage of leftover of raw ingredients or spices.

- No worries if you are a total noob in cooking! That is why there is this service made available. We were taught step by step, followed by a demo by the chef. It was his and my first time cooking Nyonya dishes! I am usually into oriental homecooked and western dishes. If Xav can do, so can you!

- The most dreaded chores about cooking, for me it is not the preperation but it was the washing. At Let's Go Cook Singapore, everything will be done swee swee (nicely) for you. Just attend the session, cook and enjoy your creation at the end of it. Leave the dishes behind!

- If you are getting your child attend the session with you, I am sure they will be more appreciative of your effort in the future. Xav actually said "I did not realised that cooking can be quite hot, especially if the cook is standing in front of the stove for a long period."

Last but not least, it does not end here! Bring back the recipe and practise cooking it when you return to your country of residence or home! Thank you Michelle for your patient guidance!
