We an invitation from
OpenRice Singapore for a food tasting session @
Treehouse Cafe after a morning of Kids' Day out @ The Grandstand, visiting some places specially catering to services just for children.
This family first concept restaurant, newly opened in Feb 2013, is located on the first floor, has a diaper changing/ nursing room within the restaurant for the comfort of mummies and the young ones.
We stepped into the cosy cafe, lighted with warm lightings.
The Treehouse compromises of two levels, first level would be the dining area as well as a section where child friendly tables and chairs were available as well for the kids to utilise. You can leave the kids to play on their own, with some lego bricks, bead chaser, books and some other small toys.
There is a also a selection of some magazines as well for children and adults to browse through.
Leading to the second level,
|
Staircase leading to the "Treehouse" |
it has a kitchen set for the kids to let their imagination run wild and pretend play. Other than that, I personally feel that there is not much toys on the second floor. Perhaps they would want to consider brightening up the second level and add on a wall fan for a better ventilated play area and add on more toys to better utilise the big space.

Would advise that parents' accompany are required for young children if they were to be playing on the second floor. Other than that, the play area on level one is ideal for the kids to play on their own while the adults dined.

Eggs Benedict with poached eggs and smoked salmon ($14) |

Eggs Benedict with Jamon ($18) |
Check out the few
Tapas dishes below. If you are a meat lover, you might love this. The sauce is just nice for my palate. By the way, I'm not a meat lover as most pork dishes have a pretty strong "pork smell" even after they cooked it. However, I can accept this dish. As I took the first bite, I did not have any issue except for to find the meat a little too dry. The sauce is good and it will taste even better if the meat is more moist.
|
Meatballs in spicy tomato sauce ($12) |
|
Prawns served in sizzling sauce of esqelette pepper, garlic and olive oil ($14) |
Want to spice up your palate ? Try this sauteed mushrooms. Some may find it too spicy but I take it pretty well. It's not too oily to snack on it.
|
Sauteed spicy mushrooms with garlic and chilli ($8) |
This is yet another one of the dishes which won me over ! Cheesy and a little tangy.
|
Beef Lasagna ($18) |
Their main courses offers the following :
|
Rosemary Chicken |
Apart from the black pepper lamb steak I took at
UK Argo Farm, this is a rare occasion which I am willing to taste. I would have to say that this is really good ! The meat is soft and tender and the best part is the meat does not have any strong smell.
|
Braised Lamb Shank ($26) |
|
Gourmet Burger ($20) |
|
Curry Chicken ($14) - served with rice or baguette |
Coming to the desserts, it's a must try for their Chocolate Laval Cake ! Served warm and moist, coupled with a scoop of Movenpick Vanilla Ice-cream. And it is not overly sweet.
|
Chocolate Laval Cake ($10) |
|
Gourmet Tiramisu ($10) |
Kids' meals are available too for kids below age of 12 @ $15 per set which includes a main meal + drink + a scoop of Movenpick ice-cream. Portion is slightly big for Xav though.
"Dear Alfie" is pasta with chicken ham & onion cream suace. Just nice for my lil' onion lover here.

My overall review on Treehouse Cafe :
- Indeed a family concept kind of restaurant, where highchairs and children cutlery are easily available. Even families with young babies are good to dine there with the facility of a diaper changing/ nursing room available.
- Parents can dine in peace with the availability of free entertainment for the children.
- Decent fare available but being a dessert lover, I will come back for the desserts if I'm in the area.
Thank you OpenRice &Treehouse Cafe for having us.

I was there recently. The cafe served me raw chicken which I almost fed my son. They were not professional handling the incident and did not take food safety seriously. Be careful and check carefully before feeding your children if you go back again.
