Xav loves books but he loves magazines even more ! He was glued to the six copies of I.love.Reading series when he first received them (Volume 2, Issue 7 - 12) ;
- Pets Are Special
- Our Precious Planet
- Staying healthy and happy with Stella and Stan
- Creatures of The Sea
- Community Helper
- Kindness Matters
I.love.Reading, is suitable for children from age 5 - 9. It seeks to develop the joy of reading in children and to complement their learning through a series of well thought out stories and activities. It centres around three main characters a brother and sister name Stan and Stella; and Lulu, a ‘magical’ monkey.
But wait ! Who says children under age of 4 can't read together ! I.love.Reading is made compatible with Pen Pal Whizz. Xav used it and read through the magazine with Vera. She was very much attracted to the talking pen ! Read about my reviews HERE.
It became a nice bonding session for the pair of siblings, reading through the magazines together.
As Xav read, he came across questions that were set within the stories to help develop critical thinking skills, comprehension as well as to allow him to develop empathy towards the characters in the stories.

Various little act of kindness which you can easily pick up and remind yourselves. I have been observing him for quite some time. My little gentleman here, knows when to give up his seat to the ones in need like the elderly and mummies carrying a child in their arms. He can learn more of other little act of kindness through I.love.Reading series - Kindness Matters .
From the magazines, learn about Science as well ! I have definitely picked up the shells before as shown below but did not know their names. Even I'm learning from I.love.Reading !

One of Xav's favourite topic - Food and Nutrition. At times, he could talk about it non stop and "lecture" me on what kind of healthy food I should be eating.

Teaching children what numbers to call in case of emergency or not. Perhaps, you may want to read through an incident which I came across and determine if that was an emergency or non emergency situation.
Not only it's educational, it's fun and engaging too! I.love.Reading comes in Volume 1 and 2 consisting of 6 issues per volume (e.g. total 12 issues in both volumes)
The usual price for each volume is $22 and there is a current promotion going on for both volumes in a bundle is $35 (Inclusive of GST). Pretty affordable for a year, don't you agree ?

ReplyDeleteThanks.
My 2 children love reading a lot. And I will be happy to introduce them to magazine-style books. The topics are short enough to help my 2ys old focus, while my 6yrs old can enjoy a varieties of contents on her own in the magazines.
